Notes from the Pandemic
Yvonne has started an Instagram page.
At our daughter Maggie’s school, University School of Nashville (USN), parents would get periodic talks and advice from a therapist, Jim Schleicher. Each time we heard Jim, we would go away with a nugget that helped our family.
One of those nuggets was Jim’s statement that stress and gratitude are mutually exclusive. If we were feeling stress, we could focus on things we were grateful for, and the stress would tend to drop away. We tried it, and it worked.
In the stressful early days of the pandemic, stuck at home and nervous about the virus, our finances, and the state of the world, Yvonne remembered Jim’s advice. Having collected and digitized all our family photos, she began going through them each day and recalling special moments in our lives. She decided to share them, one per day, and so her Instagram page was born.
Here is Yvonne with our friend Cathy Plog in Freiburg, Germany. Here is a lobster party we held on our back deck, with our buddy Rob Schmid wearing a chef’s hat and holding a plastic lobster. Here is Maggie on her first birthday, with her parents looking on proudly.
The images and memories spool by, comforting Yvonne, making her friends smile, and reminding us both what a wonderful life we have led.
